The Do’s & Don’ts of Stumble Upon
Do stumble other users top picks.
This will not only allow you to see what others find to be the most interesting, but will enable you to be seen by potentially a lot of people. As you look through other users profiles, your profile icon and link will be displayed on that users recently visited listing. This is a great way to increase your own visibility very easily. The user that you Stumble will also most likely visit your postings in return.
Don't discover every post from one single website.
Stumble Upon's algorithm will catch onto this habit very quickly and will down grade the weight of your post. If you vary the sites that you give thumbs up to your posts will have a much greater weight to them and be stumbled by more users.
Do message other Stumble users and correspond with them.
The best way to become a power use on Stumble Upon is to be active in the community, much like any other social network. My own findings so far have been that the typical Stumble user is very open to making new friends and finding new websites, so reach out and say hello to users you have something in common with. A great way to do this is to message them and thank them for a great posting you've enjoyed.
Don't thumbs down every single stumble to be an ass.
I haven't tested this out yet, but I'm reasonably certain that if you sign up for Stumble and only thumbs down stumbles your account is likely to get discredited in a very short time. Of course there are people out there doing this sort of thing, but try and be fair with your thumbs.
Do visit the top stumblers page.
If you fancy checking out how far you have to go to be a top stumbler then this is the page for you. This is also a great place to start making friends. If you can make friends with some of the top stumblers and they thumb up some of your posting you'll get an insane amount of traffic.
Don't add every user to your friends list immediately.
Try to only add people to your friends list that your really actually want to see links from. You can only have 200 friends at the moment so choose wisely. If you're looking to get a variety of links be sure to friend people that are using different categories of stumble upon.
Do include photos in your stumbles.
People like photos. Try to include photos from your stumbled page in your stumbling, it will entice more people to actually check out the link. But be sure its relevant to the stumbled page, as people don't like being misled.
Do visit and join stumble's group pages.
These pages are collection of users and their links that pertain to a certain topic. If you are looking for something specific these are the pages to go to. Ask fellow users of the group for answers to any topically related question.
And there you have it, some good things to do and some not so good to do with Stumble Upon. Feel free to test these out on your own, but these tips will be a good guideline to get you started for sure. Like any other social network, the more you invest in the community the more the community will invest in you - so don't waste any time and start social networking now already.
Have more stumble tips and help? Post below I'd definitely like to hear them!
