Build Your Own PC – Save Some Money

computerPosted Jan, 29, 08

One of the best ways to save some money with a computer is to build it yourself. Its also a great way to learn some of the hardware ins and outs of computer systems. This can be a daunting task for people that have never even cracked open the side panel on a computer tower before. With the economy going into the toilet lately, I'm on the lookout for ways to save money anyway possible.

You can of course buy all your own components and build your computer completely yourself, but you'd need some knowledge of everything that has to be connected and compatibilities etc. Or you could buy go the PC Kits way and have some of the work already done for you. When you buy a PC kit you're really just buying all the parts before they hit assembly, which is often times a lot cheaper then the finished product which includes labor and shipping costs.

If you've got a little patients and can follow directions fairly closely then this type of kit might be the way for you to go on your next computer purchase. Usually when I price out components for a system they end up being a few hundred dollars cheaper then if you were to buy the same or almost same system with a bigger manufacturer like Dell or Sony.

Even if you've never looked inside a computer case before you could get a PC kit and assemble it, but it certainly helps to have a friendly geek handy as well. Most kits come complete with instructions that are hard to mess up since they are usually all illustrated with nice photos, but if you are a novice at PC hardware then having a tech geek around might be a good precaution.

One of the best features of building a computer this way is that you can completely customize and upgrade it as you go. Do yourself a favor if you are looking to purchase a new system in the near future and price out what the system would cost you from Dell and what it would cost you in comparison to build it yourself. Once you've done that, go buy yourself an ice cream treat with your savings!
