Yahoo PPC Anoyance

yahooFirst off let me say that I like Yahoo! I’ve even listed a link below that will get you $25 free advertising when you sign up for an account at Yahoo! Sponsored Search. Lately I’ve been testing out some PPC (pay per click) advertising of affiliate products with the Yahoo search marketing tools, and for the most part they’re fairly good. Now you’ll notice that I said for the most part, and thats because they’ve got a REALLY annoying feature that I dislike. I haven’t noticed as much with MSN or Google’s advertising programs, but in Yahoo! its really distracting.

If you’ve never used Yahoo!’s advertising center its set up very much like MSN’s or Google’s, with a few differences that you have to really look for to find. On the majority I’ve been quite happy with the program except for the daily spending limit feature. For example, today I did a very small test of an ad and set the daily spending limit at $5 just to sample the market very quickly. While I know this is an absurdly small money range to gripe about, it still irritates me that Yahoo! went and showed ads until I had been charge $8.46. If you do the math thats over fifty percent of my originally allowed spending money for the day.

Suffice it to say it didn’t break the bank any, but if you decide to scale up a campaign be sure to monitor and plan for some overage. It appears that Yahoo! has no issue with barging right through the predefined set daily spending limit and passing those charges along to the end user.

And another annoying part of Yahoo! ppc is that they will charge your account automatically if you’re balance gets low. So basically if you’re account balance goes to $5 and the systems considers this to be insufficient money to fund your next days worth of ads it will charge you minimum of $30. So its a never ending loop really which is super annoying, especially if I only want to spend say $30 total over a four day period to test out a campaign. Be forewarned if you try out Yahoo! for PPC, that you may be getting charges you’re not expecting.

Advertise your Web site with Yahoo! Sponsored Search. Sign up and get a $25 credit into your new account. Learn more. While I have some issues with Yahoo! PPC functions it is a very good system, just keep in mind the points I outlined above.
