Wierd Promotional Items

With the super bowl only a few days away, marketing agencies around the world are scrambling to put the finishing touches on closely guarded secret commercials for the big game. Now most of us will never be in a position that will enable us to put together a marketing piece for something as big as the super bowl, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with your marketing ideas. Some of the best marketing strategies for online businesses and websites are off line marketing campaigns that feature really odd promotional items.
If you are out promoting your website or pitching a new business to potential investors or advertisers you want to leave behind something other then an impression to remember you by. This goes especially true if the first impression they got of you was a terrible one. In marketing impressions are super important, but they are not the end all be all. Even if a marketing meeting with a new advertiser went sour, if you leave behind a promotional product that makes them smile or even something that they can realistically use that has your logo and slogan on it you’ve managed to get your foot in the door every time they look at it.
Take for example the customized antibacterial wet wipes. Yes you read that correctly. The fact that you had to read and think about that last sentence should tell you enough about the product to make you think twice about the type of promotional items you can legitimately market yourself with. Who wouldn’t be intrigued by someone that left behind wet wipes after a meeting with their logo and slogan on it.
Another example of something that I’m considering sending to a few of my potential clients for a campaign this year is live tree promotions. This one sort of knocked me off my own chair when I surfed it. Everyone is all about going green these days as much as possible, and I completely support that, so why not be super green and spread some love with live trees that your clients can plant somewhere.
The point to all of this is that you should get creative with your promotional products. Don’t just send out the traditional mouse pad or stationary pad. Leave a promotional piece that the end user will actually use or something so wild that they remember it and keep it. Keeping your logo in their face as much as possible is a great thing, but to do it with flare and style makes it even better.
