Pagerank vs. IZEARank

Most bloggers and webmasters are constantly concerned with their Pagerank, the score that Google gives out for pages based on quality, link backs and other factors. Lately there has been a shift away from Pagerank as more users find it a skewed ranking system that is arbitrary. IZEA (yes the same people that do payperpost) have launched a ranking system called IZEARanks.

IZEARanks is a bit different from Google in the fact that their system utilizes a javascript on the page to measure actual traffic. For those of you worried that you’ll receive a Google slap for using code from the same company that brought you PPP, according to IZEA you’re all set, and the code has been made Google friendly. While that still remains to be determined, one thing that I do find very nice about the IZEARanks is the ability to compare traffic stats with other websites that have opted to show their ranks.

Oh, and one more thing – they’re giving away $1000 a week for the top ranked site. Yeh thats right, you read that correctly, $1000.
