Its spring time again (for most of the country anyway) and the boys of summer are starting to get back onto the fields for spring training, you too should be preparing your blog for the summer season. Even if you don’t like baseball it can lend a lot of useful techniques in preparation for the long haul season that is summer. Most bloggers and webmasters will tell you that summer is a traditional slow down period for internet usage, and rightfully so. No one is going to stay inside and stare at your blog when they can be outside in the sun at the beach. Is you blog ready for summer?
If you’ve never played fantasy baseball before, its a pretty easy concept. You pick a bunch of players for your team like a manager would from real life players. Once you’ve got your team in place you go up against other teams daily or weekly depending on how your league is set up. Players get points and bonuses for how they play in real life and your fantasy team adds up those points, the fantasy team with the most points wins that match up.
The same thing happens for blogs and websites. You put your best players on the field (aka your best posts) and launch it into the world to compete with other players (websites / blogs). Hopefully the fans appreciate your articles and link back to your post or leave comments (hits / home runs). In the end the blog with the most points (back links / comments) typically wins the match up.
One thing that baseball and fantasy players have in common are stats. Baseball is one of the most stat laden sports on the planet. If you’ve been blogging for even a short amount of time you know how important (or unimportant according to some) stats can be. Fantasy players have stats coming to their cell phones, pda’s, work email and even espn sports center displays fantasy league stats. If you’re a blogger know your stats. The summer season is coming up and if you know which articles are getting the most user actions you can prework them to carry the full summer.
All stats, injury reports and major updates available from within fantasy baseball software. This should also be true of your chosen blogging platform. If you can’t easily access update notices and reports its most likely not the best platform to be using. Keeping up to date with the latest and most secure systems is a must for any blogger. Security holes are found everyday, don’t let your blog get ripped just becuase you didn’t get an update notice.
The potential payoff for any fantasy baseball player can be money and fame. The same goes for bloggers. Some of the biggest blogs out there have launched their creators to fortunes and fame within a very short period of time. Be sure to make your blog the best it can be for the summer season to convert on the users short attention spans.
