Just a quick post today about the new Firefox that got released this week. I’ve been a long time user of Mozilla’s Firefox browser and as such have been through the ups and downs of the browser, but I’ve got to say the new Firefox is a great step forward for Mozilla. They’ve worked out a lot of the bugs that annoyed the crap out of me in Firefox 2.0.

For one they’ve managed to get rid of the enormous memory leak situation that would result after having the browser running for an extended period of time with a lot of tabs open. I can’t tell you how annoying it was to leave the browser running for a bit and come back to a slogging PC with almost no ram left on a four gig machine!

Some other things have been sped up as well, such as the interface and streamlined tab launches. They do have some annoying new features though that I promptly turned off. One of them was the url history bar thing – I’m not sure who’s bright idea that was, but seriously was that really needed? I think not.

Overall I’ve got to give the new browser a huge thumbs up for stability, ease of use, and down right superiority over most all other browsers, with the exception of maybe the new Opera release. Firefox definitely stands out in a crowd of losers. Go get your copy of it today.

I’m cruising around the net this morning with a morning cup of coffee and I happened across a YouTube video that I thought was pretty amazing. I’ve had my iPhone for awhile now and its been put through the paces. Its got dents, divots, and scratches on it from just general wear and tear that any phone gets with regular usage. I know Apple has said that the iPhone can take some bumps and drops, but mine is starting to show its age. This video is definitely something that I will be investing into pretty quickly. Want to use your iPhone on any network, I know I do. There have been reports of people getting their iPhones to work on multiple networks, but nothing has been massed produced yet in the states to make AT&T drop its plan commitments so users can choose their own carriers. If you happen to live in the UK however its a totally different story.

iPhone Unlock offers a service to unlock specific versions of the iPhone in order to use them on any network. Whether or not this is a legal action or goes against the terms of Apple is unclear, but if you are itching to have an unlocked iPhone and don’t mind paying for it then this is the service for you. Apparently you can do it by yourself, in the privacy of your own home with some gadget assistance they send you. The service claims that it will never be broken by Apples firmware updates as well.

So check it out today if you’re looking to unlock your iPhone.

Of course you’ll be paying for the slimness, but its not too outrageous. Starting at only $1,800 the Mac Air won’t really set you back too much more then a normal laptop will. Of course thats not the solid state drive model either. The solid state drive will cost you close to three grand if not more. Personally, I’m going to wait a few months to get some product reviews in before running out to buy one of these shiny new laptops, but I will have one eventually, oh yes I will.

With the abundance of Igear going around this season I thought that I’d take a moment and give some words of caution about these high priced toys. They are just that, toys. And the first thing that toys like to do is to get broken. So, protect the crap out of your new Iwhatevers and get the extended warranties at the very least.

Ever wondered how much space is not being used on your iPhone? Try utilizing this nifty little program called iPhoneDrive. You can then use the free space on your iPhone for whatever dirty little files you’d like to slam in it.

Blow up your keyboard.

Well not actually blow it up, but make it bigger at least. One of the easiest and most useful tips I’ve found with the iPhone is to turn the iPhone on its side BEFORE you tap a field to bring up the keyboard. If you’ve rotated the iPhone first, the keyboard will expand to fit the wider screen making it that much easier to type in whatever government secret you’re trying to smuggle.

Finger it out!

Some of you will get the joke, others of you will still be searching. However it applies to the iPhone in the sense that if you have a link on the screen and your not entirely sure where its going to take you – simple press and hold your finger down over the link and it will provide much more detailed info on the link. This tip also works in mail. So before you click on those porn links, you’ll know whether or not its going to be safe to click.

A simple search on Ebay will produce several pages worth of domain names that are up for sale. A grouping of them is selling for a whopping $499,999. There is definately a boom on Apple related domains, so if you want to turn a quick dollar or two you might consider putting some of them up for sale if you’ve been holding onto one.

On the other side of the coin obviously is using the domain to pull in sales. If you have an Apple related domain name sitting there doing nothing you are throwing away you’re own money. At least park the domain and put some ads on it if nothing else. If you do not have a lot of time, consider putting up a link directory to Apple resources, or perhaps a small blog. Just don’t let the domain sit and not be used, you will miss the wave that Apple has created.

If you are going to sell your domain name I would suggest Ebay as a starting point. If you are looking to get in touch with a more tech savvy group, I would highly suggest posting your domain sale on Sitepoint’s Marketplace.
